About the role
We are looking for a Principal Adviser HSE to advise on HSE risks, controls, processes and systems within the RTX (Rio Tinto Exploration) Africa-
Eurasia Region and provide HSE assurance of RTX HSE performance against RTX / RT standards.
This role is a great opportunity to lead a multi-disciplinary HSE team and provide technical advice to RTX across the Africa-
Eurasia Region. Reporting to the RTX AER HSE Business Partner, you will be :
Implementing organisational safety, health and environmental programmes.
Developing and executing annual HSE plans and establishing priorities for the Region and Districts with reference to customer needs, District and Regional risks, business plans, Rio Tinto standards, and statutory requirements.
Planning and implementing safety policies and procedures in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health rules and regulations.
Building the technical HSE capability of the Region by providing training, guidelines, procedures, on-site collaboration / presence.
Contracting external service providers, as required, to provide expert and specialist services which address identified needs and risks, managing external providers in line with Rio Tinto procurement requirements and ensuring value for money.
Implementing contractor management standards and procedures to ensure contractors comply with Rio Tinto and statutory HSE standards and requirements, conducting contractor pre-
qualification and performance audits.
Responsible for managing and developing a core group of regional HSE personnel.
To succeed in this role, you will have :
Qualifications in relevant disciplines such as health, safety, environment and / or social sciences. Relevant Post Graduate qualifications are desirable.
Significant HSE expertise and achievement in managing HSE risks with requirements applicable to a complex operational environment, with field based and geographically dispersed workplaces.
Considerable experience with exploration, working in a variety of environments and conditions, and specifically with drilling operations.
Good analytical skills to appreciate regional requirements re RTX strategy and operations, and identify HSE implications, requirements and responses at a District level.
Strong communication and influencing skills and the ability to work collaboratively with senior technical professionals and senior leaders to achieve outcomes.
Ability to work productively in a multi-language, cross cultural environment. Fluency in French or in Russian is an asset.
Well-developed operational management and project management skills to plan, manage and deliver a significant and complex programme of work including the ability to manage related resources and budgets.
