Overview / Responsibilities

  • Optimize the pipeline design and resulting costs, by exploring novel design techniques and utilizing lessons learned, and experience from Experimental Phase and other Kashagan development phases on applied studies
  • Provide technical input, guidance and supervision in the Assess and Concept Select phases
  • Develop pipeline-engineering solutions for a wide variety of pipeline configurations, including HT / HP pipelines, pipe-
  • in-pipe, and sour multiphase pipelines

  • Provide knowledge sharing / mentoring to junior pipeline engineering members of DP&S
  • Ensure a variety of installation methods is feasible given specific constraints, including surface tow, push-pull and shallow water lay
  • Prepare detailed written reports on all pipeline issues, and make presentations on it
  • Provide technical co-ordination of line pipe material selection
  • Prepare scopes of work and technical input to the required documentation
  • Explore novel design techniques for optimizing the pipeline design
  • Technical management of several innovative pipeline developments such as fiber optic leak detection systems
  • Determine safe engineering limits, in terms of materials, welds, applied strain and environment, hence ensuring freedom from hydrogen induced and sulphide stress corrosion cracking
  • Provide engineering input to cost and schedule.
  • Review pipeline cost estimates
  • Review all studies and engineering works related to pipeline discipline, carried out by Engineering Contractor, during the execution of Assess and Select stage works.
  • Identify appropriate pipeline engineering standards for the project, in line with NCOC standard philosophy
  • Identify surveys and tests to be carried out to gather information for the design development (i.e. geotechnical and geophysical investigation, topographic surveys, ice modelling tests, etc.
  • applying the results to the engineering and design definition of the facilities.

  • Provide technical expertise in data analysis and input to support the assessment of fabrication yards and installation contractors
  • Proactively recognize and integrate the business drivers for project development (HSE, operational, commercial)
  • Skills / Qualifications

  • An Engineering degree in Mechanical / Structural or Civil discipline or equivalent
  • Minimum of 6-8 years discipline experience, preferably in complex onshore and offshore gathering and pipeline systems in oil and gas project front end engineering, detailed design, delivery and operation.
  • All aspects of mechanical design (stress analysis, flow assurance, installation, etc.)
  • Experience in previous similar company role, especially in managing and interfacing with major Contractors
  • Experience in design of pipeline in arctic and ice load conditions would be an advantage
  • Previous experience and familiarity with RoK and / or other Caspian projects highly desirable
