Working as a core member of our Minerals team in Kazakhstan, you will play a key role in ensuring that our geochemistry testing methods are fit for purpose and in alignment with SGS global policies.
As our Spectroscopy subject matter expert, you will be the go-to person for technical guidance and provide advice to internal stakeholders and our client base.
More specifically, you will :
Plan and coordinate the development of Spectroscopy activities within the region and ensure the analytical services are competitive and fit for purpose;
Provide mentorship and training to Senior Chemists, Chemists and other employees;
Provide technical guidance and support to the Regional Technical and Operations Manager as required;
Facilitate the assurance that quality standards are being used and the most effective methods are being carried out for analysis work;
Develop and validate new methods of analysis with Chemists in cases where specific methods to be used or more efficient methods have been identified;
Plan and execute all non-routine assignments and be accountable for the analysis, recommendation for test work and decisions;
Partner with sales teams to create contract-winning proposals for current and prospective clients;
Develop relationships with prospective clients, while maintaining existing client relationships;
Partner with the Technical Development Manager and Regional Operations Manager to ensure that all operations stay up to date;
Perform laboratory techniques according to written procedures, following the company’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s);
Undertake various lab duties as assigned and prepare standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products, and tests.
Educated to degree level in a Science related program such as Chemistry, Geochemistry, Biochemistry etc. An MSc or PhD is an asset;
Proven experience in a geochemical analysis related field as a technician or chemist;
Expert in one or more analytical techniques (XRF, ICP-MS, ICP-OES, Classical Chemistry, Wet digestion, AAS, Precious metals analysis and Carbon-Sulfur;
You must be fluent in Russian or happy to take on the challenge of learning a new language;
Strong knowledge in using laboratory instruments and the ability to operate and trouble-shoot them.
